Allowances & Expenses
Town Council:
None. As a Town Councillor I get no allowances and no expenses. All my work is voluntary and free. I hope, therefore, I provide good value for money!
District Council:
Now that I am also a district Councillor I get an allowance which is worth just over £300.00 a month after tax. Most weeks I have about 10-20 hours of work when factoring in casework, meetings, studying council papers, driving to and from Fenland Hall and the like. I also publish a monthly colour newsletter and conduct monthly Councillor Surgeries. It is therefore lucky that the allowance isn’t considered a “wage” by anybody other than the taxman, because if it were I’d be working on about half the minimum wage :) I claim no expenses at all.
County Council:
As a County Councillor I receive a basic allowance. The only expenses I claim are the car expenses for travel to official sanctioned meetings, all claims are checked by Officers and approved. I did not accept the payrise that Councillors voted for in 2017, instead I am giving the additional monies away to local causes and charities and organisations, which is exactly what I promised I would do.
