If It’s A Fight You Want…

On the national front, Alistair Darling delivers another ridiculous pre-budget report.  You have to wonder – is the man really this blinkered or is it the puppet-masters who are actually speaking through their convenient marionette?

If I were standing next to Mr. Darling I would be sorely tempted to continually rap him on the head while saying: ” The.  Money.  Has.  Run.  Out.”  Wouldn’t you?  As pleasant as it might be to go on a national shopping spree right now, it’s utterly bonkers.   It’s like the person who has maxed-out their credit cards thinking the solution to their woes is a store card or five.

Mr. Darling, I do not detest you quite as much as I do Gordon Brown, but it’s a close-run thing.  My four-year-old son has a £23,000 debt on his shoulders and you are part of the team that put it there.  For that alone I could happily watch you spar, no-holds-barred, with a team of Ultimate Fighters for an hour or two.   But it’s not just my son, you’ve done it to everyone’s sons and daughters and grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  You’ve put the weight of debt onto the backs of every newborn baby that takes its first breath.

And for what?  A bunch of failed schemes and giveaways?  Increased unemployment, social disorder, rampant poverty?  A national debt that reads like a tagline of a horror movie?  Your Labour Party’s endlessly creative new methods of taxation have crushed the life out of the economy.  Your Labour Party’s mindless laws, rules and regulations have stolen the liberty and justice from our society.  Your authoritarian, Big Brother state has rejected personal responsibility for a soulless and moribund society.  You have given away a thousand years of independence for the squalid perpetration of your failed dogma.

You may think that the public will be fooled by yet more delay of the inevitable, chancellor.  You might presume that we are all so stupid that we cannot see what you are doing.  Your core vote is shaky and uncertain … trying to buy them back with vague and impossible promises you cannot afford fools nobody.

We Conservatives have had some differences recently, that’s true.  There has been some poll slippage thanks to disagreement over decisions taken.  But if there’s one thing that will unite us under a common cause it is to remove you and your entire laughable joke of a party from power.

There is a reckoning coming for you, Mr. Darling, and all your colleagues.  You must call an election soon and to my mind you may as well just get on with it.  Whether it is in three months or six months you will have to face the music.  And it’s not going to be a serenade.   If it’s a fight you want… you are going to get it!

Meanwhile, On The Home Front…

Sometimes in personal and professional relationships, when people work closely with one another and the decisions they must take are important and difficult, differences can grow from small spats into very major bust-ups.  We’ve all been there, right?  Sometimes you just can’t quietly talk your way around a problem.  Even the most placid and reasonable folk sometimes need a blazing row to clear the air.

I’m sure it’s been a tough night for Fenland District Council.  They’ve had some things to talk about and I suspect some very angry words have been spoken.  There are no bad guys in this story.  There is no villain upon whom the blame can be laid.  There are just passionate, dedicated adults who have different views on the proper way to carry out their duties.

I could easily spout an opinion about who was right and who was wrong, but it would be presumptuous of me to do so.  I am not part of the District Council group and I am not privy to all that went on.  So I’m afraid, for anybody that was waiting for me to say something controversial, I’m not going to do so.

I will just say this:-  I have a great deal of respect for all my FDC colleagues.  That is not lip service, just the plain truth.  I’m not trying to score ‘political points’ (you should know me better than that, dear reader).  I feel sad that Cllr. Geoff Harper has resigned.  I feel sad that there’s been a huge row.  I feel very sad that the Standards Committee is involved in any of this (again) because I think adults should be able to deal with one another face to face, straight and honestly, instead of through pointless and expensive third party arrangements.

But I also feel confident that none of this will harm our excellent candidate Steve Barclay’s campaign next year.  The public know that Steve Barclay is nothing to do with it.  The public also know that sometimes people have disagreements.  Each and every one of us has been there.  This row has no bearing on the excellent work the District Council has done and continues to do for Fenland.  Once tonight’s perambulations have blown over I am sure we will proceed with a confident stride and a dynamic leadership … whoever wins that august position in the end.  The world has not gone crazy.  Sometimes all you need is a bit of a row to clear the air.

I agree with you about the PBR and the Labour party.

The council needed a big change. But who has the ability to do the job? I cant think of any of the Torys who would fit the bill. Can you?

Moderator (Steve Tierney)’s Response: Yes, I can think of quite a few. There is plenty of talent at FDC and several people who I think would do a fine job as leader, or in the other cabinet roles.

Well are they foolish enough to think that holding every tax rise other than the re-rise of Vat to 17.5%, Is gonna make the downtrodden masses vote for them all it’s done is put more distrust into an allready UNTRUSTED party. More taxes will mean more lower paid forced onto the Dole to make ends meet.

Yes I know lots don’t think it’s a good idea that taxing the Bankers inflated bonuses is a good idea, but the bonuses should in the publiclly owned banks be only paid out once the cost of purchaseing them has been re-paid. Then we wouldn’t worry about payeing them out. Also I do think that calleing RBS’s bluff would be a good idea. So some will leave but it will also show the others that they are owned by US not themselves.

Now onto who should be voted in Yes PPc Steve Barclay is a great Bloke and will do well for us in this area, My only worry is with Flipper in charge, We need a strong unbending Leader not another wimp.

Well Christmas is fast approaching so that means so is the election we’ll see what happens at that how much egg is on Labours face

    James Edwards.

On The Home Front – Christmas comes but once a year.

Moderator (Steve Tierney)’s Response: You know what they say, Chris. Be careful what you wish for.
